One of the best things about summer in North London is seeing our neighbourhoods burst into life.
Window boxes overflow with colourful blooms, front gardens are carefully tended, and balconies become mini urban oases filled with herbs, lavender and climbing plants. You don’t need acres of outdoor space to enjoy gardening around here – just a little inspiration and the right local spot to pick up a few plants.
While many people immediately think of large out-of-town garden centres, one of the joys of living around inner North London is the collection of independent garden centres, specialist plant nurseries and community gardens right on our doorstep.
Whether you’re giving your garden a summer refresh, adding some greenery to a balcony or simply looking for a peaceful weekend wander, here are some of our favourite green spots.

If there’s one place that’s become something of a destination for North London gardeners, it’s N1 Garden Centre.
Tucked away just off Englefield Road, this independent garden centre has built a loyal following thanks to its carefully curated selection of plants, stylish pots and knowledgeable team. What makes it particularly appealing is how well it caters for London living. Whether you’ve got a compact courtyard, a Victorian terrace garden or simply a sunny balcony, you’ll find plenty of inspiration without feeling overwhelmed.
If you’re unsure what will thrive in your outdoor space, the staff are always happy to offer practical advice, making it a great choice for both experienced gardeners and complete beginners.

Just a short journey from Finsbury Park, Boma Garden Centre has been helping North Londoners transform their gardens for decades.
It’s particularly good for seasonal planting, herbs, climbing plants and outdoor containers, making it ideal if you’re looking to brighten up your garden over the summer months. Rather than feeling like a huge commercial garden centre, Boma has a friendly, neighbourhood feel. It’s easy to spend an hour wandering through the displays and coming away with far more plants than you originally intended.
If you’ve recently moved into a new home and are wondering where to begin with the garden, this is an excellent place to start.
Perched on the southern side of Alexandra Park, Alexandra Palace Garden Centre & Cafe is one of the largest garden centres in London and has built a reputation for its impressive selection of plants, particularly climbing varieties such as clematis, roses and jasmine.
Alongside outdoor planting, you’ll also find a beautiful Victorian-style greenhouse filled with houseplants, gardening accessories and gifts. One of our favourite things about Ally Pally is that it offers much more than just shopping. Pick up a few plants, grab a coffee from the on-site café and take a stroll through Alexandra Park, soaking up some of the best panoramic views across the London skyline.
It makes for the perfect summer weekend outing, whether you’re planning a complete garden makeover or simply looking for a little inspiration before heading home.

If houseplants are more your thing, or you’re looking for something a little different, The Grow in Crouch End is well worth a visit.
This independent plant nursery may be smaller than a traditional garden centre, but it’s packed with carefully selected indoor plants, unusual varieties and beautifully styled pots. It’s the sort of place that makes you want to fill every windowsill with greenery.
If you’re living in a flat or apartment without outdoor space, it’s also a great reminder that gardening doesn’t have to stop at the front door. A few well-chosen houseplants can completely change the feel of your home.

Not every green space has to be somewhere you shop.
Hidden within Finsbury Park itself, Edible Landscapes London is one of the area’s best-kept secrets. Part community project, part educational garden, it focuses on sustainable growing, edible planting and biodiversity. Throughout the year it hosts volunteer sessions, workshops and community events, making it a brilliant place to pick up new ideas or simply enjoy being surrounded by nature.
If you’ve ever fancied growing your own fruit, herbs or vegetables but weren’t sure where to begin, it’s a fantastic source of inspiration right on your doorstep.
If you’re after somewhere a little more low-key, Caledonian Road Garden Centre is well worth knowing about.
This seasonal independent nursery may not be the biggest on our list, but it’s a favourite among local gardeners thanks to its well-stocked selection of exotic outdoor plants, pots and gardening essentials, with reasonable prices to boot.
What we particularly like is that it feels like a true neighbourhood garden centre. There’s no need to dedicate an entire day to the trip – it’s perfect for picking up a few additions to brighten a balcony, courtyard or front garden while you’re out and about in Islington.
Sometimes, it’s these smaller independents that become the places you return to time and time again.
Tucked away between the streets of Islington, Culpeper Community Garden feels like a hidden oasis in the middle of the city.
Maintained by volunteers, it’s a peaceful green space filled with flowers, vegetable plots and wildlife-friendly planting. Throughout the year the garden hosts plant sales, gardening events and community activities, making it much more than somewhere to admire beautiful planting.
It’s a lovely reminder that gardening in London isn’t just about private outdoor space. Community gardens like this play an important role in bringing neighbourhoods together while encouraging more people to enjoy growing.

One of the biggest misconceptions about gardening is that you need a large outdoor space to make it worthwhile. Living in Inner North London often means getting creative with the space you have available. A small balcony can become a colourful retreat with the addition of pots and climbing plants.
A courtyard can be transformed with raised planters and fragrant herbs. Even a sunny windowsill can provide enough space to grow tomatoes, basil or colourful wildflowers. Some of the most beautiful outdoor spaces are also some of the smallest.
A well-kept garden or balcony certainly makes your home more enjoyable to spend time in, but the benefits go far beyond appearances.
Gardening has long been associated with improved wellbeing, encouraging people to spend more time outdoors, slow down and connect with nature. Community gardens offer opportunities to meet new people, learn new skills and become more involved in the local area.
And if you’ve recently moved into North London, visiting local garden centres and community spaces can be one of the nicest ways to get to know your neighbourhood.
One of the things we love most about living and working around Finsbury Park is the balance between city living and green space.
Whether you’re searching for the perfect houseplant, planning a complete garden makeover or simply looking for a peaceful place to spend a sunny afternoon, there’s no shortage of fantastic local spots to explore.
Creating a home you love isn’t just about what’s inside your four walls. Sometimes it’s the flowers outside your front door, the herbs growing on your balcony or the local community garden around the corner that make a house truly feel like home.

For many homeowners, selling a property follows a familiar path. Your estate agent takes photos, creates a listing, installs a board outside, and markets the property on major portals like Rightmove and Zoopla.
But not every sale happens that way. In recent years, off-market sales have become an increasingly talked-about alternative, particularly among sellers looking for a more discreet approach. Rather than being publicly advertised, the property is marketed to a carefully selected group of buyers behind the scenes. For some sellers, this sounds ideal. No constant viewings, no public listing, and no scrutiny from neighbours wondering what your home is worth.
Selling a home can be frustrating enough without feeling like you’re stuck in a partnership that isn’t working. Most sellers begin their property journey feeling optimistic. The valuation sounds promising, the photos look great, and the agent assures you they’re confident of a successful sale. Then the weeks start passing by.
