Easter in Finsbury Park, Crouch End & Islington: The Local Family Guide You Actually Need

Skip the stress, keep the magic: Easter ideas right on your doorstep

Easter in London has a lot going for it. Long weekends, lighter evenings, and that first real sense that winter is finally behind us.

But it’s easy to fall into the same trap: booking something expensive, travelling further than you need to, and spending half the day managing tired, overstimulated children in a queue. The best Easter weekends are often the simplest ones, and if you’re based in North London, the good news is that genuinely brilliant options are already on your doorstep.

From ancient parkland to hidden creative spaces and a boating lake that’ll keep small ones entertained for longer than you’d expect, here’s your insider guide to Easter in Finsbury Park, Crouch End, and Islington; without blowing the budget or the bank holiday mood.

Outdoor Adventures That Feel Like a Proper Day Out

Finsbury Park

Free admission — Easter Funfair running 28th March to 12th April

Finsbury Park is popular for good reason. It’s big enough to feel like a proper day out, but without the logistics — or cost — of travelling anywhere. Over Easter, the annual funfair brings rides, games, and classic fairground energy to the park, making it feel genuinely festive even before you’ve unpacked the picnic blanket.

Beyond the funfair, there’s a well-equipped playground, a boating lake for a low-key afternoon on the water, and more open space than you’ll know what to do with. Bring your own Easter eggs and set up a mini hunt, children will treat it like the headline event of the weekend, and it costs almost nothing.

Parkland Walk

Free admission

Linking Finsbury Park to Alexandra Palace, the Parkland Walk follows a disused Victorian railway line and is now London’s longest linear nature reserve. It feels genuinely removed from the city the moment you step onto it. In spring, it’s beautiful: blossom overhead, birdsong, and the occasional fox if you’re lucky.

At around 4km, it’s manageable with younger children, and the flat, pram-friendly paths mean you’re not fighting the terrain as well as your kids. Print off a simple nature checklist before you leave; flowers, birds, insects and what might otherwise be “just a walk” becomes a proper mission.

Easter Trail at Lauderdale House, Waterlow Park

Free admission — Saturday 5th April, 11am to 4:30pm

Pick up a treasure map from the Tea Lawn behind Lauderdale House and head off around Waterlow Park solving riddles and clues. Complete the trail and the first 100 children get a small chocolate reward, a nice touch that gives the whole thing a satisfying finish.

Downloadable maps will be available a couple of days before the event if you want to plan ahead, or just turn up and collect one on the day.

When the Weather Doesn’t Play Ball

Let’s be realistic, Easter weather is what it is. Luckily, North London has indoor options that are genuinely worth seeking out, not just rainy day fallbacks.

Easter Arts & Crafts at Gallery 121, After Noah

Free admission — 3rd to 6th April Friday 11am–5pm | Saturday 10am–6pm | Monday 11am–5pm

Tucked behind the homewares shop After Noah on Upper Street, Gallery 121 is one of those places that feels like a discovery even if you’ve walked past it a hundred times. It’s calm, creative, and a genuine world away from the bustle of Islington on a busy weekend.

Over Easter, the team are running free drop-in workshops for children which include daily story time, Easter colouring, and seasonal crafts with all materials provided and no booking required. Simple, unhurried, and completely free.

Bach to Baby Easter Family Concert

Monday 6th April, 3pm — £16 per adult, up to 2 children free

If you’re after something a little different, this is worth the money. Bach to Baby is a lively, interactive concert designed for babies and toddlers. Expect live music, movement, and a relaxed atmosphere where wriggling and dancing are actively encouraged rather than tolerated.

The series has performed at the Royal Albert Hall and Buckingham Palace, and The New York Times has spoken highly of it. But more relevant to a bank holiday Monday: it’s fun, it’s different, and it’s the kind of thing small children talk about afterwards. At £16 for an adult with up to two children included, it’s one of the better value ways to spend an Easter afternoon.

The Best Easter Weekends Are Often the Simplest

There’s a version of Easter that involves long drives, expensive attractions, and the creeping sense that it should all be more magical than it currently feels. And then there’s the version where you’re sitting on a picnic blanket in Finsbury Park while your children lose their minds over an egg hunt you set up in ten minutes.

North London makes the second version very easy to pull off. Less travel, more flexibility, lower cost and a stronger connection to the neighbourhood you actually live in. That’s not a compromise. Most of the time, it’s the better day.

Looking for a family home closer to the green spaces, parks, and community feel that make North London such a brilliant place to raise children? We’d love to help.

Energy Grants to Make Your Home Cheaper to Run

Energy efficiency used to be framed as an environmental choice. Increasingly, it’s a financial one. Rising energy costs have pushed many homeowners to look again at how their homes perform – not just in winter, but over the long term. The good news is that several UK schemes still exist to help fund improvements, particularly where homes are older, less efficient, or expensive to heat. For homeowners in North London, where Victorian and early 20th-century housing stock is common, these schemes can make a meaningful difference both to comfort and long-term running costs.
